I am very excited that the “faith communities” in Saratoga, California are organizing the month March 2009 for Saratoga Serves. Â In these troubling economic times it is important that we come together as community to support each other and respond to common needs.
Blood Drive – The church my wife and I attend (Saratoga Presbyterian Church) is sponsoring a Blood Drive on Sunday morning, March 22, 2009 from 8:30AM to 1:00PM at 20455 Herriman Ave., Saratoga, CA 95070. Click>here to sign up for an appointment online or call Rick Bonetti at 408-857-8800.
Marrow Donor Drive – Our daughter Jill Whitney has been diagnosed with a blood condition requiring a bone marrow transplant, so in her honor we will also be having a Marrow Donor Drive the same time and place above. Call Rick for more information.
Hygiene Kits for the Poor in Guatemala – SPC will also be using the morning of Sunday, March 22, 2009 to assemble 1000 hygiene kits for poverty stricken villagers in San Marcos Nisa, Guatemala.
Feed Homeless Men – Prince of Peace Lutheran Church offers shelter to homeless men and needs help the entire month of March on various nights to prepare meals.
Assist Seniors in Saratoga – Saint Andrew’s Episcopal Church will help with yard work, housework, minor repairs and computer maintenance during the week of March 14-22.
Helping Seniors Around the House – Saratoga Federated Church is also offering help to seniors two weekends: March 21-22, 2009 and March 28-29, 2009.
City Team Youth & Family Services – Saratoga Federated is planning prayer/trash pick-up walks on Saturday, March 28, 2009 from 9AM to noon.
Saratoga Spring Cleanup Day – Immanuel Lutheran Church is accepting donations to benefit InnVision, Family Supportive Housing and The Lord’s Pantry on Saturday, March 21, 2009 from 10AM to 4PM.
Dia de Los Ninos - Congregation Beth David will be having “Sunday Friends” an afternoon where the will assemble childrens Day art project kits on Sunday, March 22, 2009 from 1PM to 4PM
Sacred Heart Community Service – Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church will be carpooling volunteers to help with the non-denominational, non-profit organization on Friday, Msrch 24, 2009, from 11:30AM to 3:30PM
El Quito Park Habitat Restoration – Westhope Presbyterian Church on Saratoga Ave. will clean up this community park on Saturday, March 28, 2009 at 9AM
Neighborhood Retreat – St. Archangel Michael Serbian Church will host speakers on attributes of human imperfections (RSVP for date and time)
Disaster Relief Worldwide – the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Allendale will assemble 10,000 disaster relief hygiene kits on Saturday, March 28, from 10AM to 2PM.
